ME - Lex!

How it started...

Hi, my name is Lex and I'm the founder and designer here at Altered Apparel. The birth of my brand occurred after my third baby was one! I had attempted for years with regaining my own identity as a mother. Struggling to find clothes that felt like I could make them my own and not just feel mumsy and frumpy.

It took time for my ideas to evolve but after several years working on a photography project that aimed to show how it's ok to breastfeed in public, I wanted to carry on with my quest to support other mothers so I finally pulled it together and Altered Apparel was launched.

If you want to check out my ongoing photography project - Empowering Women - Normalising Breastfeeding - click here to find out more.

Altered are clothes for women who still want to maintain their identity whilst trying to be the best mother they can possibly be, (and whilst trying not to be constantly covered in sick, and lots of sticky mess)!

Our focus is on style whilst trying to ensure they are totally suitable to breastfeed in, this is why our clothes all have discrete side access zips. We pride ourselves on being based around the busy lives of women who want to feel fashionable in all situations.

All our clothing is made in the UK; right down to our labels, swing tags, packaging stickers and flyers/cards.

The yarn is sourced from Continental Europe (mainly Turkey) and India, and our postal bags are biodegradable. We are conscious of our global impact and want to make sure we are doing our bit to be as ethical and sustainable as we can be, being a small independent business.

We are also committed to supporting breastfeeding. There are many factors involved with breastfeeding and it's not always easy to carry out. But, one thing that is hard for some mothers is the confidence to carry it out whenever and wherever they need to.

So we hope that by wearing Altered Apparel you feel just a little bit more like you, and have the confidence to breastfeed in style, wherever YOU choose.
